Welcome to VVSA, the Vermont Volunteer Services for Animals Humane Society. We strive to improve all aspects of the lives of animals and encourage harmonious relationships between them and their human companions. Since our inception in 1986 as a non-profit humane society, VVSA has been a front-runner in animal welfare and protection in Vermont.
Our work encompasses humane legislation, senior citizens’ companion animal programs, feral cat rehabilitation, wildlife assistance, animal adoption and the creation of the first spay neuter assistance program in Vermont, which eventually evolved into the Vermont Spay Neuter Incentive Program (VSNIP). The VT Spay Neuter Incentive Program (VSNIP) is under VT Economic Services Department (ESD) and is responsible for the oversight to assure this program is functional, viable and sustainable.

Together We Truly Do Make A Difference!
Charay, a squirrel is a regular at the bird feeder, usually hanging upside down to eat! Turkeys in the winter decided our land was a safe haven :) VVSA volunteer and friend visited our friend with her precious dog, "Elf". Elf, and other animals bring joy to people that are without their own companions for a time. "Wendy" was missing the quills on her back, attacked by an animal. Her quills have grown back, and she is on her own on protected VVSA property. This fall was confusing for various bees. Flowers had passed, leaving no pollen. In the winter they take cover together under tree bark and other protected areas. We learned that putting out a very thin line of drizzled home and fruit juice helped them survive until they tool cover for the winter. Mixed species of bees, wasps and flies shared amicably. Skunks can easily be relocated. Feeding in an open trap for a few days, slowly moving the food to the back of the ONE-sided trap, until the day of movement is advisable. Use carboard on the bottom of the trap so their feet aren't on the wire, careful not to allow the cardboard to get in the way of the door coming down on it. Start with small amounts of canned food in the very front, leading to the back. VERY IMPORTANT - never use anything to feed in that might get caught under the trip plate when it goes off.
